10 Secrets of the Effortlessly Thin

The majority of thin people—whether they have been lean all their life or managed to lose weight and keep it off—share several healthy strategies that help them stay thin and healthy with seemingly little effort. Here are 10 secrets you need to know in order to join the ranks of the thin.

They don't diet
Or at least not in the traditional, all-or-nothing, deprivation sense of the word. "You need to get rid of that diet mentality and realize that what you are doing is making a permanent lifestyle change," says Anne Fletcher, M.S., R.D., author of the Thin for Life book series. She adds, "You do have to cut back on calories if you want to stay thin, but it's about reassessing what you eat and being more sensible in your choices, not about a quick-fix, crazy diet." Research has also shown that thin people tend to have a better quality diet than those who are overweight. They eat more fruits and vegetables and more fiber, and drink more water—all healthy things that provide more food volume for the number of calories.

Great article: Be active always (you'll get used to it), NEVER eat everything on your plate(ignore the people who think you should). Be busy! (only have one full time job? Not enough: work more!).Don't eat cheese! (every heavy person I know loves cheese!). I know, Wah! Wah! Do you want to be thin or not!

I am a guy who likes certain types of foods. I 've always stayed away from Mayo, and won't eat any type of salad dressings, but love salad.

I always use portion control, and at 43 I am still 6'0 165lbs. If I have a big lunch, I won't eat dinner. It's really not that difficult. I don't excercise as much as i used to but i still walk and ride my bike. The secret to making a dent when you do excercise is you MUST sweat or it is not going to help you.

I have my 3 secret weapons to keep myself thin. Of course, the truth is, they are not the very expensive secrets you use in the world.
  1. I keep a watch on my abs - A little bit of abs exercises and a protein rich, nutritious, yet tasty food (What is that? Wheat preparation, millet meals, no meat, no - seriously no-)
  2. Walk, walk and walk in one stretch, for about 4 Kms. I don't take more than 40 mins to complete this. Some time even less. (no breaks in between, no loss of tempo, no loss of heat, nothing of that sort)
  3. Drink a liter of water more than what the nutritionists recommend. May be naive, but that's my way and my body which it assimilates. May be 2 liters suffices all the metabolic needs but this extra liter keeps you away from food for an extra length of time. (See, you have dieted without knowing you did). When I feel hungry, just head to a cucumber and eat the whole of it, even if it's meal time. Cucumber is more water and nothing else, not even cellulose nor starch (again you have dieted without knowing it). Secret is, eat but don't give the body anything to manufacture out of it. (Mind you, you should be feeding your brains continuously whether you eat or starve. So give it proteins and a little bit of sugar. Will juice do? of course it does for non diabetics)
Who am I? An ordinary fitness freak? No. No such tags, nor do I want to create hype of that kind. Well, would I recommend anything? Yes, you can read more about this for free everywhere online.

Nice article. I agree with all 10 points. In the past especially, when I lost weight and maintained my goal weight, I used to weigh myself on a daily basis, and I always watched what I ate. It became second nature not to indulge. I stopped getting onto the scales for about a year and paid for that mistake by gaining 20 pounds! Now I weigh myself daily, and use a set of free online weight loss tools to track my weight loss and my daily calorie intake. The results are starting to show again.

well i think this article has great ideas of what to take care of the dieting problem. people tend to think of depraving themselves of certain joys in life(chocolate, sweets, etc.) but its actually everything in moderate proportions. like for example i read it in a magazine, a serving of rice in a meal should be two fistfuls, you know? things like that, help out a person. am sure most of the time, a lot of us wont be using measurements or exact ones at that. but it helps out in having an idea, to be smart of how you do things to how you feed yourself and how you exercise, something as small as taking the stairs instead of the elevator

To JY1212JY:

You are exercising 30min a day by playing tennis.  That is great way to go about it.  But here is something you should not and must not do: skipping meals.  As you do this, your digestive system will not work properly.  In other words, you have trade the bad for the worst.  You've said that if you have a bite, you get hungry and if you don't, you don't get hungry.  The reason is that your body needs to replace what you have burned.  By the way, do not eat food for comfort because it will make you crave even more.  It tastes too good to skip.  Right?  Ask yourself one question: Is this a need or a want? It is your body and you form your body by how you eat and how active your body is.  At the end, You are what you eat!!!  Do not forget to drink a lot of water!!!!! keep playing tennis!!! (with intensity).  Play with intensity gives you competitive edge and another purpose for playing not just to exercise but to make enjoyable physical activity.

Well i exercise every day like i walk for at least 30 min., i play tennis regularly but the problem is if i have a bite of anything i automatically get hungry. İf i dont eat anything i dont get hungry through out the day so i prefer skipping meals. İ know its not right but its better than thinking about food all day.Sad Life is hard for fat people..

Very great article. Thanks.

The problem is that most people in my Country are making high-fat foods and I can't get rid of all of them.

I started to not to eat dinner and using fiber for lunch. Unfortunately, most of the times, I can't eat breakfast which is important. Is there any alternative way that I can omit breakfast?
