Start the Weight Loss Challenge

Are you ready to lose 10 pounds in five weeks? Then start now.

The plan for Week 1:

Figure out in advance what you will eat for each day's meal and snack. Write out a daily menu, spreading your caloric intake evenly between your meals and snacks. On this plan, you will need to knock off 500 calories daily from your normal eating habits, as detailed in your Baseline Diet Diary (if you haven't kept a baseline diet diary, do this first). You can also track your eating and exercise habits on My Wellness Center. This week's focus is to improve your diet by eating more nutritious and lower-calorie foods. Reduce calories in small ways—choosing lower-fat items, substituting lower-calorie spread and dressings, cutting out the liquid calories, and so on. For more ideas, read this week's Eat Smart tips. Log your meals and snacks in a Daily Diet Diary (download .pdf forms). Keep a running calorie total to ensure that you're within your target range.

Walk the fat off. Follow a daily walking routine. No matter what, fit in some exercise every day. But if a workout feels too strenuous, back off slightly. (See "Walk the Fat Off" to the right.)

Notice what feels easy and what's tough. Changing your diet and activity level may seem relatively easy this week, when you're off to a fresh start. But to stick to a plan, it's important to recognize trouble spots early on and find ways around them. If you're hooked on sodas, for example, you may find it hard to stay away from them. Instead of just giving up sodas, you should find a satisfying substitute that has fewer calories. That means experimenting with different diet flavors, trying various brands of bottled water, or bringing your own unsweetened iced tea to work so you won't be tempted by the vending machines. Whatever your weakness, try to think of similar strategies that will ensure you won't deviate from your path to weight loss.

I feel your pain!  I have found that once women start to "diet", their body (metabolism) gets screwy.  SO, that means you are fighting a battle 10X harder than anyone else, and your body keeps getting it's revenge.  Find a healthy eating plan, walk, and stick to it.  Don't give up!  Be healthy, quit the crazy dieting, and make up your mind that you will get better, and DO IT!!

I have learned from experience that sometimes we need to work from the inside out. Many it is time to look at what makes you want to eat. Unhappy relationship, job, etc can keep those pounds coming.  Believe it or not sleep is a really important factor.
I fistful of this, a handful of that, and an extra piece of something add up.  If we really look at what is going on in our lives and what we really eat in one day the answer can pop right out at you.  Once you know why it is easier to fix it.Smile

Anjelahoy::

You shouldn't hate that your 190lbs. Don't you think that your lucky to be 190lbs instead of being 250lbs or 300lbs or even higher?

Some people wish they were 190lbs. So you shouldn't hate your weight because you are very luck to be thinner than most.

I have lost 17 lbs. in 8 weeks. Worked w/ a dietician who gave me advice

regarding fat, carbs and calories. I started writing everything down in a diet journal

and counting those three. Limiting myself to 1000-1200 calories a day, no more than 160 carbs, and 25 fat grams. A long with handweights while watching night time TV and dusted off my treadmill to get in some walking each day (I work 55-60 hrs a week)

has really worked.

Good Luck to allSmile

Hello Nicky87, I am also overweight and have been like that since I was in my early 20's.  I am now 37 weighting 230, married to a wonderful husband who loves me very much just the way I am, but I am very very uncomfortable with loving myself this way.  So I decided that this new weight loss program I have now started, am going to implement something totally different.  It's a combination of protein shakes, exercise and eating healthy.  I have been working out at the gym and I've noticed that I have more energy and feel I am going to reach a reasonable goal this time.  Usually, I set my goals too high which I can never accomplish and I feel like a failure at the end.   I have tried everything from prescribed drugs to exercise equipment.  If it's out there I have purchased it.  Today is my third day and I feel great!!  What I have done which I never did before is I've included God and prayer into my diet and exercise program.  I talk to God and ask him to give me the strength to say NO to the desire of over eating.  It's workingOpen-mouthed!!  I have asked for some back up and my husband is praying specifically for my weight lose.  There is power in prayer, but most of all I can do this with Gods will power that flows thru me.  Call me crazy, but I have faith that this time the weight will drop cause I've included God as my personal trainer.

yeah quit eating so much!! that is the best advice you'll get. Cut down your calorie intake by half and then you'll start shedding off the pounds. Also, add a little cardio and sooner or later you'll be noticing your self 2, 4, 6 sizes smaller. I am not trying to be mean it's that I too was over weight and this is what i did and trust me it works. Look up portion control and eating 6 small meals a day on google and trust me this is easy than just being on a strict diet. Much love your helpful helper Alex! (hopefully)SmileOpen-mouthedHot

NO-ONE WILL LOSE WEIGHT UNLESS THEY WANT TO!  Stop dieting; keep track of everything that you eat each day.  Secret information will help you to get the body that you want.  Each day keep your body properly hydrated with plain water and definitely limit your sodium intake.  Keep mindless grazing to a minimum.  Remember; eat to live, don’t live to eat!  A daily regimen is needed by everyone and that regimen includes proper nourishment.  Diets and diet aids do not help anyone!  The only way to successfully lose weight and get the body that you deserve is by using secret information.  This information is in the book Lose Weight Using Four Easy Steps which can be ordered through the website www.bbotw.com  Everyone who has gotten a copy of these secrets has lost weight and become healthier.

Hi there,

Well I am a 29 year old mom of 4, student and homemaker. I need to loose 30lbs. 5'2 and 162. I am starting to walk now and need some advice to loose as much as 1lb a week. Its hard to find time to exercise, that's not housework. Any wisdom would help. My goal is to loose at least 30lbs by my birthday. March 21, when I turn 30. I know the older you get the high risk of health problems and harder to get in shape. My body is not as it used to be and harder now to change my figure. I've lost 10lbs over the last 3 months, only due to stress of school and being busy with my kids going back to school. I know as weather changes and holidays arrive so does the weight. Sad I'd like to get in good habits now. ThanksOpen-mouthed

Week 1//Starting the Challenge

Week 1: For the next five weeks, burn fat and get fit simply by walking. You can walk indoors on a treadmill or outside on the sidewalk, a track or a trail. You can also use this plan with cardio machines.

Each routine starts with a warm-up and then is broken into series of slower and faster, or easier and harder, intervals. The harder intervals push you to work at a more vigorous intensity. At the "race pace," speed up your walk. At a "roarin' pace," either speed up or find other ways to increase the intensity: jogging, climbing stairs, doing jumping jacks, jumping rope, or stepping up and down off a step. These intervals should feel hard.

If you are overweight and unfit, you may not be ready to jump or jog, or even speed up too much. If so, don't go faster than a brisk walk if that's a sufficient challenge. Catch your breath during the easy intervals. If any routine feels to difficult, shorten the workout or lower your exercise intensity by slowing down.
