Here's good food news: The more you munch on healthy eats, the less you need to worry about Friday night's fat burger and fries. Who says? Harvard. Its medical school has found that women who routinely nibble nutritious foods slash their risk of dying from the usual culprits, including heart disease and cancer. To up your odds of living a long and healthy life—despite occasional blowouts at T.G.I. Friday’s—make sure you regularly include these seven nutritional powerhouses in your diet. "They're the cream of the healthy-foods crop," says Elizabeth Somer, R.D., author of Age-Proof Your Body.

This article is good and dumb at the same time.  It is good because it reminds us to eat the healthy stuff. Which we should aready know what is good and what is bad.  The dumb part is both men and women should eat this exact same stuff not just women.  You folks should consider your titles before you try to direct it to a particular group.  And, this is not a complete list of what we people should eat.

A suggestion: enjoy coconut and coconut milk.

Coconut contains medium chain triglycerides which are quickly absorbed by the body

and turned into fast energy: not stored as body fat.

Lignans! This list should also contain flax hull lignans.  One scoop a day will make you feel better and make you healthier! After I had a colonoscopy, my nutritionist recommended FlaxVibrance  http://www.flaxvibrance.com One scoop of FlaxVibrance contains more lignans than 10 servings of plain flax.  Both my husband and I have a scoop every day as it helps prevent colon, breast and prostate cancer.  It also keeps me regular and has helped me in the battle of the bulge... I still have a few to lose but a scoop of flaxvibrance in juice is filling, tastes great and has helped a lot!  I found the code hg10 for 10% off on a health board.

Studies have also shown that flax hull lignans help with menopausal symptoms as well as have mood enhancement properties as far as lifting serotonin levels.  I thought I was just happier as I was slimmer!

I agree!  I make every attempt to bring veggies and fruit into the house, however, as noted, the price of any item that is good for you is expensive.  What is most irritating is, given that I am a senior, I have seen items that were once considered for the "poor" - i.e., non-fat milk,

(whole milk was the "health" choice years ago, and guess what, it was more expensive!) now, you find whole milk on sale, but not the fat free, or 2%.  Another item that was always for the "poor" - brown breads.  White bread was the expensive choice.  Now, you see just the opposite!!  It is disgusting.  A healthy population is a benefit to everyone, it is sad that grocery outlets etc, are too greedy and short-sighted to see this.  However, this is the way of the times it seems.  I could go on, but I think the point has been made.  Perhaps, as is the want of this country, we could organize and open a chain of markets that caters to IMPROVING HEALTH - NOT the BOTTOM LINE.  I think this could be accomplished without sacrifice, a profit is even possible. (Maybe not a private island)

.  What do you think?

Look for your local farmer's market (usually one night a week in the downtown area). You can find all these items there for about half what you pay in the grocery store and they are fresher and of higher quality.  And it makes for a cheap night out on the town!

All the studies in the world won't make these items any more affordable.  The prices of fruit & veggies at the supermarket are ridiculous.  And for those of us on a limited income, we eat what we can afford.

This is good info but sometimes I slack because of the expense. And I don't mean going to a health food store..just the regular super market!
