Play mind games
Chess, crosswords, cryptograms, riddles—they all train the brain to perform mental gymnastics. Games like Sudoku can be fun while promoting strategic thinking, problem-solving and complex decision-making. Keep brainteasers around the house and challenge your children to help you solve the trickier problems.

I agree with reysr also...a second language is very important and studies have shown those children are very advanced, my 2 1/2 granddaughter is proof. Her mother is from Barcelona and they speak Catalonia in the household, plus English, she speaks and understands both.

There's a link between a high IQ and developing alcohol problems

You've showered your kid with a variety of mind enriching toys which taught him about ABC and counting. You've engaged him in as many mentally stimulating activities as possible to improve his cognitive skills, logical thinking and basic problem solving abilities. You've done everything to make sure that your kid's intellectual capabilities are properly nourished and fostered.

Give your child’s brain a nutritional boost.

I agree with elpintor.  You are being racist and close minded.  Race has nothing to do with it.  I am hispanic.  All my siblings are educated, and so are plenty of my friends.  If you invest time in your childs education and extracurricular activities, then your child will succeed.  Once the child leaves the school, its your responsibility to keep your child on the right path.

I also have friends who's parents were not there.  Despite many obstacles, they have succeeded.  They wanted more out of life, so the struggled to move forward.  Children need someone to encourage and believe in them.  It's always best if its the parent, but in can be anyone.  It can be a  teacher, a neighbor, or a pastor.

I agree with all the tips given.  Your mind needs to be stimulated.  These tips are not only great for your kids but for the parent as well.  Especially the reading part, genoagirl.  Open your mind.  Don't judge a whole race by an experience you had.  If you have a problem at your childs school, say something.  Your child can be moved to a class that is more advanced.  Smile

And... What About Teaching some values, discipline and love in the mean time? Knowledge and power in hands without appropriate values develops in corruption and perdition, drugs and confusion.  The bible is the best source of help for parents that are looking for guidelines proven since the beginning of time!!!  TRY iT...you won't loose anything.

In regards to Genoagirl AND berrbiss, let me guess....your child that you speak of is....gifted, right?  of course! gifted and deserves so much more.    I am a Hispanic parent and I care deeply about my childs education, as I am always right there to reinforce and help- and no, I have no thoughts of my son becoming a million dollar athlete (Genoagirl, you should be ashamed of yourself for such a racial remark)    And for all those moms out there who think their child is so much more special and brighter than the next kid, some of you are teaching your caucasian children that they're superior- then they go to school and become little playground racists.   I hear it all the time from my 6th grader. Then when his classmate make a racist joke then finds out he is half hispanic, these little racists, say "oh, your hispanic?  no, this joke was not meant for you".  Great parental education, huh?  Not everyone is going to be a million dollar CEO.

Oh yes, back to the subject.  I also believe in Dr. Blaylock's findings.  And how nutrition has lots to do with brain development.     And lots of reading!  I had my son on my lap reading to him long before he could speak.  And now his reading memory is 100% always on his A.R. (he just might be a million dollar CEO one day):)

p.s. sorry to sound so racists myself, but, I had to get my point across somehow. my apologies to all well meaning caucasians.  Lets get together and educate our children on "kindness" and "respect" to all, not who's child is better than the other.  And then just maybe the playground will be filled with better educated children.

The wife of a good friend of mine teaches an honors high-school math class; she says it's pathetic.  The work ethic is poor, the parenting support is virtually non-existent and the entire experience is very depressing.  And this is in one of the wealthiest suburbs in the greater Seattle area, hardly a slumdog experience.  If you want your child to get ahead, follow the advice such as in this slideshow.  The door is wide open for your child to advance quickly.

As longer the "blame game" will continue to be used as the best way of excusing our inabi-

lity to act properly, NOTHING will change. We all have a responsibility, want it or not. Our constitutional rights come with strings attached for EVERYBODY. Blaming at the parents had

always been the easy way out: they have NO way to control the problem that started inside

the very organizations that took over the public education. They justify their extremist new

theories by looking at the wrongs of past education traditions and ignoring the ethics in-

volved. It is obvious that their agenda is far from making a smart future generation. I feel

sorry that our American appointed Leaders had become submissive to a foreign control, al-

lowing confusion to take over our future generation, the easiest way to totalitarian control.

Children of different backgrounds , race , religion , political influences get along better than their parents do . Let them be! By the time all parents figure this out we will have new leaders.  My warmest thanks to the teachers . Homework is important not just for study it is an indicator of a childs personal challenge and the environment of support .  Computers are more than games and robot babysitters. I believe a long walk though nature is very important. Hug your children support your teachers (they spend as much time with our children as we do  and they are not just babysitters) .  Its a think and do world  and it only gets brighter .

The article dont mention the MOST important of ALL!!!! LEARN A SECOND LANGUAGE!!!!!!
Research shows that preschool and elementary school children are at the optimal age for second language acquisition.
It's never too early!
Any parent would be making a huge mistake not to teach their child a second language like Spanish. Children who speak a second language test higher, speak better, and retain their languages longer than children who only speak one language or learn a second language later in life.
PLEASE CORRECT YOUR ARTICLE!!!!!!!
