Cervical Cancer

Since abnormal cervical cell changes rarely cause symptoms, it is important to have regular Pap test screening. If cervical cell changes progress to cervical cancer, symptoms may develop. Symptoms of cervical cancer may include:

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding or a significant unexplained change in your menstrual cycle.
  • Bleeding when something comes in contact with the cervix, such as during sexual intercourse or when you insert a diaphragm.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse.
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge containing mucus that may be tinged with blood.

Symptoms that may occur when your cervical cancer has progressed include:

  • Anemia because of abnormal vaginal bleeding.
  • Ongoing pelvic, leg, or back pain.
  • Urinary problems because of blockage of a kidney or ureter.
  • Leakage of urine or fecal content into the vagina because an abnormal opening (fistula) has developed between the vagina and the bladder or rectum.
  • Weight loss.

I am a 57yrs old female.  Two years ago my periods stopped completely.  Never had any issues other then hot flashes.  Several months ago I started to have a discharge that was very slimy, somewhat filmy.  Now there is blood in it.  I might no be everyday but I have to wear a panty liner everyday.  It might not have blood in it everyday either.  I do have cramping.  I had a pap in January and everything was ok.  They did say that I have a cyst.  About the size of a walnut.  I am worried about this blood issue and the discharge and cramping.  I have a lot of cancer from my mothers side of the family.  Do I have anything to worrie about?  The past two times that I have gone to the bathroom There has been some blood in the commode.  The discharge is thick and stringy.  Last night and this morning has been the most so far.
