The answer to the first question isn't complete.  What about Hemiplegia?  No clost or hemorrage is necessary for a stroke to occur.

Even though minimal effects after one stroke (continued dizziness and slight headaches),  I still worry another will happen.  Is this common--to worry so much????

My husband had a TIA one month ago due to a blocked caotid artery. He had temporarily (2mos prior)lost vision on bottom part of his left eye, but went away and we ignored it. Then he started complaining that he could hear his heart beat in his right ear when the room was quiet (swishing sound, at times). That was another sign. The day he had his TA, he complained of a bad headache and it happened early evening. I was out, but had called him and noticed he kept dropping the telephone and slurring. I imediately came home and noticed the drooping of eye and face and called ambulance. When he got to hospital, they administered Tpa and within an hour, damage had been reversed, but had to have surgery the next day. So the moral of the story- get your loved one to hospital immediately. If your alone, call 911, although sometimes the stroke victim may not be aware he/she is having a stroke. Women, I think are more aware of odd symptons. Most important, have your doctor check your neck for any blockage symptons.

I am almost 75 years old now. I have never had a stroke - thank the good lord. I have worked at manual labor all of my life, ate healthy food, checked my blood pressure very often, and only do what exercise I feel comfortable with. I was married for 48 years - she died. Now I have a new girlfriend that helps me a lot. I am slower now, but I still keep moving. I see the doctors when it is recommended. If you take good care of your body, it will last a lot longer. I read my Bible daily and say my prayers daily.  May your life be pleasant too.

Hi,

I have had major problems with my health since my thyroid was removed in 79, with burnt out Hashimotos.  And strokes are big in my family but know one wants to listen.  Now that i am over 50 and the extra stress of caring for my husband with cancer is making things worse.  But if you go to the er they do not want to see you unless you come in by ambulance, or bleeding, etc.  So if I go in to an er you are treated like dirt, not all ers but most.  Or they want to put the blame on my fms or migraines.

Also does anyone else's head gets cold.  It is not cold to the touch but inside it is.  My neuro. doc just laughs.  I have seen what happens with strokes and I don't want to have to do the rehab plus with my hubby I just don't have the time. lol

PAD is big in the family also.  With all cousins over 45 now, many illnesses are showing up that our grandparents had.

I appreciate any help--mull

Two Years ago when I was 51, I suffered a "mild" stroke. I appear untouched by it, but I know there is a drastic change in  many of my ways. I know that I  think  slower, I really don't enjoy operating my business anymore, something that I was obsessed with for so long, and several more changes. But  a few months ago it dawned on me  and I KNOW IT WILL SOUND STRANGE, but in many ways I'm a better person, I 'm more caring of others, I take better care of myself, I'm kinder and don't really ever get angry, I feel more at peace with myself and the world around me.  I'm not as quick as I was, and maybe the pep is just barely out of my step, but I'm a better man for in many ways.

Website very helpful.  Good information about history of stroke in family could make one have stroke, diabetes, smokiing, etc.  Good to have preventive knowledge of knowing to admister that medicine within 3 hours of symptoms--is it a prescribed medicine.  Too see Dr. immediately when experience symptoms is important and wonder what 911 procedures would happen if called for this assistance at unconsciousness happening if stroke?   Thank you for questinaire I am more aware of stroke awareness.
