Pain management clinic

A pain management clinic provides a setting where a person can learn to cope with chronic pain and receive treatment. Treatment is provided by a team of health professionals who together help address the variety of factors that may be contributing to chronic pain. These health professionals may include:
- Doctors to prescribe pain medication, such as a neurologist, anesthesiologist, internist, family physician, or physical medicine specialist.
- Doctors to treat mental health, often a psychologist.
- Physical therapists to improve and maintain strength, function, and mobility.
- A nurse or social worker to help coordinate care.
Other specialists, such as dentists to treat facial pain or complementary medicine providers to help improve relaxation, may be part of a pain management clinic. These specialists meet to share information and ensure coordinated care.
