Pot Might Ease PTSD: Study
Synthetic marijuana reduced post-traumatic stress disorder in rats

FRIDAY, Nov. 13 (HealthDay News) -- Marijuana may help people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to a new study.
PTSD affects 10 to 30 percent of people who experience a traumatic event, such as a car accident or terror attack. These people continue to suffer stress symptoms for months and even years after the incident.
Israeli researchers conducted a series of experiments in which rats were subjected to stressful experiences, such as receiving electric shocks. The study found that the rats' stress levels could be reduced by giving them a synthetic form of marijuana that has properties similar to that of the natural plant.
Further investigation revealed that the synthetic marijuana prevents increased release of a stress hormone the body releases in response to traumatic situations.
"The results of our research should encourage psychiatric investigation into the use of cannabinoids in post-traumatic stress patients," wrote study author Dr. Irit Akirav of the department of psychology at the University of Haifa.
The study was published in a recent issue of the Journal of Neuroscience.

I don't take the meds, except xanax, I just hit my LIL bowl mid morning and mid afternoon and I feel like a REAL Human. I also hit it Before bedtime so I can get my 4hrs of uninterrupted sleep. No pill, I repeat NO PILL can do this.I told my Psychiatrist what I was doing to help and then, after He CONDEMNED me, I told him to go home and look up the BENEFITS of using MJ for Medicinal purposes. The next time I saw him He Apologized for treating me the way he did and said,"YOU(I) have proven your point", I have been making for years. In Tn. they can't perscribe it, even though it is our #1 cash crop(illegal).
Tn is so screwed up Financially that they should De-Criminalize it and Tax it For Benefit of Our State.

The government should get one of those "Golden Fleece Awards" for this one if not for anything else.
Humans have known for at least four thousand years that cannabis has many medicinal uses as well as recreational uses, and quite probably for thousands of years before that.
Most of the states that have approved medical "marijuana" have figured out how to collect at least some money by charging for a growers or users license. In some cases where the user is the grower, they get charged for both.
Unfortunately, the situation in this country is that we have 535 money grubbing idiots telling 330 million citizens what they are going to do, instead of 330 million people telling these 535 idiots what we would like to do. We have government of the people, by our representatives and senators for the benefit of the representatives and senators. Things will be extremely hard to change as long as we have the "Good Old Boys" in both houses.
We need to get rid of all of the elderly shysters and replace them with individuals in the thirty to forty year old range and make sure that all of them are working class people.........Hire two or three good younger lawyers for each house to make sure that the bills that are sent through the two houses are properly worded so as to be enforceable. They should also forced to write these bills in spoken English......This business of 'The Party of the first part will place that part in the Party of the second part's part until they shall decide to part' is strictly lawyerese to confuse the Hell out of the average person so that they will have no idea how badly they are getting screwed.
Maybe we need to have them pee in a bottle and blow through the breathalyzer each time they enter chambers????????? If they fail the test more than once during their term, you stick them on a Grayhound and request that their home state send someone reliable to fill out the term.
Oh Hell! I'm seventy years old, and I've been enjoying the recreational benefits since I was fifteen - never found anything that does a better job of relieving stress of any kind.
The past eight years, its become more of a medical pain killer as I have been suffering with arthritis in both hips and both knees. Two or three good hits a little before bed time, and "Arthur" shuts up and I can get a decent night's sleep. I know, why don't I get replacement for the bad joints? For four years now, I've been the primary care giver for my quadraplegic wife and there is no way in Hell that I will put her in one of those hell holes they call a nursing home for two or three months while I recover from surgery. Thankfully, there is cannabis, and hopefully, it will keep me moving for another handful or two of years.
Good night all, I'm going to take my evening medicine and call it a night.
